CARUSO Construction Update week of 4/30 - 5/4
During the initial stage of the demolition of the Caruso school building the demolition contractor, Tricon, discovered floor tiles located beneath the heating units and elsewhere that when tested were found to have asbestos containing material (ACM).

The removal of this additional material will commence on/about Monday 4/30/2012

The initial work will involve containing the work area by way of sealing the ceilings, walls, windows and any outside vents.

The contained area will then be inspected by Hatch Mott McDonald (HMM), the environmental consultant retained by SDA for this project, prior to any the removal of the ACM floor tiles.

During the ACM removal the interior air will be filtered and the clean air will be vented outside via plastic flume.
Hatch Mott McDonald will monitor the air outside the school for asbestos.

The floor tiles will be secured in plastic and disposed of in accordance with SDA specifications and regulations adopted by the Department of Labor and the Department of Environmental Protection.

The Contractor (Tricon) will handle, containerize and remove the ACM. Tricon possesses a New Jersey Asbestos Contractors Type A license issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor (NJDOL), Office of Asbestos Control and Licensing and the individuals working on the site to remove ACM have Asbestos Worker Permits or Supervisor Permits.

Tricon’s workers are trained in accordance with all OSHA regulations including: 29 CFR 1910.1001, 29 CFR 1910.1101 and 29 CFR 1926.58 including amendments.

Tricon and its employees are familiar, experienced and compliant with the following regulations:
(a) U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): 40 CFR Part 61 Subparts A, B and M of the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants and Amendments;
(b) State of New Jersey: Asbestos Control and Licensing Act (P.L. 1984 C.173) N.J.A.C. 12:120 and N.J.A.C. 8:60 and Amendments;
